Know what needs attention before the next change

Network assessment services for Portland-area businesses

Recurring outages, slow applications, unclear firewall rules or an upcoming office move? A professional network assessment gives you evidence for what to fix, keep or redesign. Wolex reviews the agreed parts of your business network and delivers findings, priorities and validation steps your team can act on.

What to expect

Clear scope. Practical outcomes.

Every engagement begins with the current environment, business priorities and the evidence needed to make a defensible decision.

Network performance assessment

Start with the problem users experience, the affected locations and when it happens. We review available interface statistics, logs, routing paths and relevant configuration to investigate bottlenecks, packet loss or unstable connectivity. Any active measurements are agreed before testing.

  • Symptoms, timestamps and affected business services
  • Switching, routing and internet-path evidence
  • Capacity constraints and competing explanations
  • Recommended next checks when evidence is incomplete

Internal network security assessment

Review the authorized firewall, VPN, VLAN and management-access configuration against how the business needs to operate. The scope identifies which devices and controls will be examined. We separate confirmed configuration findings from assumptions that need further investigation.

  • Firewall rules and remote-access boundaries
  • Staff, guest and device segmentation
  • Administrative access and supported software
  • Authorized evidence collection and clear exclusions

Network infrastructure and resilience review

Document the important devices, dependencies and failure paths before an upgrade or migration. Review available topology, configuration backups, support status and recovery procedures so a proposed change accounts for the services people depend on.

  • In-scope inventory and topology observations
  • Single points of failure and recovery dependencies
  • Configuration backup and restore readiness
  • Design or migration questions requiring a decision

A network assessment report with an action plan

Receive an executive summary, assessment coverage, evidence-backed findings and a prioritized improvement plan. Each recommendation explains its business impact, dependencies and how to validate the result. Missing evidence and untested assumptions remain visible in the report.

  • What was reviewed and what was excluded
  • Confirmed findings, positive controls and unknowns
  • Recommended fixes with ownership and sequencing
  • A technical handoff for your team or current provider

Agree on scope, access and price first

Tell us the business problem, approximate device and site count, vendors and desired timing. Wolex proposes a fixed fee or capped review effort with written deliverables. Scheduled remote work is available when access permits; Portland-area onsite work is agreed separately. Send credentials and sensitive configuration only through an agreed secure process.

Service guide

Details for an informed first conversation.

Useful scope, operating context and decision points for organizations evaluating this service.

Choose the assessment around the decision you need to make

A network assessment should answer a business question. Should you replace a switch, change a firewall rule, separate guest devices or gather more evidence before buying equipment? Defining that decision keeps the engagement useful. A list of device names or automated alerts alone does not tell an owner which change matters or what could interrupt operations.

For a performance concern, provide examples of affected applications and times. For a security concern, identify the access boundary or configuration you want examined. For a planned change, describe the current environment and intended outcome. Wolex uses those details to recommend a review scope before requesting technical access.

Professional review, a free questionnaire or an external checkup

Our free network assessment tool is a browser-based self-assessment questionnaire. It helps you identify questions about access, resilience and ownership, but it does not scan devices or verify your answers. Use it to organize an initial conversation, not as proof that a network is secure.

The paid external checkup answers a different question: what can be observed from the public internet? A professional internal network assessment reviews the separately agreed configuration and operating evidence. Keeping these scopes distinct helps you buy the work that addresses your actual concern.

Network assessment support in Portland, Beaverton and Hillsboro

Wolex is based in Beaverton and provides scheduled engineering for Portland-area businesses and internal IT teams. The work draws on more than 20 years of network engineering experience and CISSP and CCNP credentials. Your assessment can stand alone; it does not require a managed-services contract.

We agree on the schedule, evidence-handling process and acceptance criteria before work begins. Where an environment cannot be adequately reviewed remotely, we identify the onsite work or additional evidence needed. Findings remain limited to the systems, observation period and tests included in the engagement.

Frequently asked questions

Useful answers before we talk.

What does a network assessment include?

The written scope selects performance, security, infrastructure or resilience questions and names the devices, sites, evidence and deliverables. It does not automatically include every system. You receive documented findings and a prioritized plan for the agreed review.

How much does a network assessment cost?

Professional internal and performance assessments are quoted according to device and site count, access, available evidence and required deliverables. The separate $497 external Security Checkup has a fixed public-asset scope; that price does not cover a full internal assessment.

Is a network assessment the same as penetration testing?

No. This service reviews agreed evidence and configuration. Exploitation, credential attacks, disruptive tests and compliance certification are not included. Any active testing needs a separately agreed scope and authorization.

Can you assess a Cisco, Palo Alto or Juniper network?

Wolex works with Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Juniper and mixed business networks. The proposal confirms the products, versions, access requirements and evidence available for the specific engagement.

Will you implement the recommended changes?

Implementation, a new network design or a migration can be quoted separately. The assessment does not authorize production changes or commit you to ongoing managed services. You can use the findings with your own team or provider.
